Antique schist stone trough

Reference : 2024028

Antique schist stone trough: This antique reclaimed stone trough was hand-carved from a single block long ago, but may be as recent as 19th century. It will originally have been used as a farmyard feed trough. Schiste is a slate-type material and was mined not far from BCA’s Maine & Loire premises near Angers, which was France’s principal roof slate mining region.

Well weathered, and with its blue-black colour (light blue when dry, but nearly black when wet) it is particularly attractive and will find a home used as a garden or terrace planter. Some interior designers integrate rustic stone troughs into wet rooms below a water point such as in boot rooms, wine cellars, or period greenhouses, or even bathrooms (more ambitious, but possible).

For some reason long forgotten one end had an angle cut by the stone carver. This adds character, whereas the other end is squarer.
