Antique French Directoire style fireplace: This reclaimed antique French limestone fireplace is in good condition, reclaimed from a centuries-old « maison de maître » (mansion) in the La Rochelle area. It was carefully extracted from its original position embedded into the structural wall of the room.

Carved in beautiful nearly white Charente limestone it has simple Classic features, with a central oval lozenge in the centre of its lintel, and raised « panel-work » on the side jambs and lintel. In the Directoire style, it is indeed stylish and restrained in terms of decor, a classic 19th century chimneypiece.
