Antique Transition style fireplace: This antique reclaimed French chimneypiece has classic carved features such as the band detail running along the lintel then curving uninterrupted down the side jambs. Carved in French limestone, it has good patina with a few areas showing typical wear, unmistakably a truly reclaimed fireplace.
In France, the Transitional style (1750 – 1774) is a period of transition where the Baroque and Rococo characteristics of Louis XV begin to be replaced by the Neoclassical influences of Louis XVI.
