Antique Régence-style French fireplace
Antique Régence-style French fireplace: This antique French limestone fireplace in the « Régence » style is presumed to date from that early 18th century period from 1715 to 1723, but it could well be from later but carved in that style. It was made from a light-toned cream French limestone featuring a fan-like central shell, and Classic moulded panel features on the side jambs and lintel.
It has been sympathetically cleaned and partially restored, displaying original tool marks and patina gained over the centuries, and unmistakably Truly Reclaimed.
The Coquille Saint-Jacques (scallop) is the symbol of Christian pilgrimage (to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle) and the symbol of love (see The Birth of Venus by Botticelli).
