Antique French country fireplace
Antique French country fireplace: This style of antique stone fireplace is typically found in old rural houses of some status, but of modest dimensions. The lintel is slightly curved and protrudes forward, a stylish practical way of helping the smoke to rise within the flue rather than billowing forward. The side jambs are rectilinear and feature curved corbels supporting the lintel. It was a centrepiece in probably the salon (living room) of a country home, combining utility with an understated, yet elegant aesthetic.
This Truly Reclaimed old limestone fireplace probably dates from the early 19th century. There are various « honest repairs » visible, which look perfectly acceptable on this un-pretentious stone chimneypiece.
