Big antique limestone washing trough

Big antique limestone washing trough. : This antique French limestone trough was hand-carved from a single block. You can clearly see from its configuration that the inclined side that cantilevers was used for scrubbing laundry with soap, which was then rinsed in the deep basin section. It is no newer than 19th century, but it’s true date is unknown. Stone receptacles such as these were made to order by local stone cutters, in the same way that a local blacksmith would make your tools, or a joiner would make your kitchen table…… aaaah nostalgia for bygone days.
