Artisan-made « St John » bricks

Artisan-made « St John » bricks : We have these thin bricks traditionally made by artisan brick-makers as it is difficult for us to source the antique reclaimed St Jean briquettes (ref. 01342) in very large quantities for bigger projects. These new briquettes in terra-cotta are relatively regular but not with industrial precision. They have authentic character and colour variation in the same way that salvaged old bricks do. They work well for making natural brick floors too, especially in the herringbone pattern as shown on our photos.

They are often used as floor « brick » tiles either laid in straight lines, or in herringbone pattern.
