Antique Baroque marble pedestals

Reference : 2023160

Antique Baroque marble pedestals: This remarkable pair of antique pedestals in Baroque style were expertly hand carved in solid pink marble with grey reflects. They are ideal for supporting statues but are « Objets d’Art » in their own right. Their carved mouldings features scallop shells (Coquilles Saint-Jacques) which were and still are symbols of Christian pilgrimages, and are also characteristics of the French Baroque. In France the Baroque Style was popularized by architects such as Le Vau and Mansart, and were embraced by the French monarchy during the 17th century onwards, most notably by Louis XIV.
