Antique check floor in limestone & blue-stone
Antique check floor in limestone & blue-stone: This traditional French antique reclaimed check stone tiling in limestone was made for a 19th century chateau near BCA’s Maine & Loire base. This « black & white » check reclaimed stone flooring is in hard Bourgogne-type limestone for the « whites », with Belgian blue-stone (or equivalent) for the « blacks », with authentic worn patina gained over the years. The chateau became a monastery in later years, with the stone floors presumably well scrubbed. Although this job lot is late 19th century, these big square stone tiles correspond to a previous era of Classic black & white limestone with black stone or marble squares used for the floors in French chateaux and manor houses, public buildings and churches.
Also available in smaller size : Antique check floor in slate and limestone (ref. 2023197)
The provenance of these antique floors is from a chateau in the nearby Mayenne region built in 1895 in Scottish « Gothic Revival » style by a French industrialist.
