Antique White & Black marble cabochon floor

Reference : 2023076

Antique White & Black marble cabochon floor : This antique reclaimed stone floor is a rarity, with the « Bohemian » late 19th century authenticity of white marble cabochon squares combined with the deepest of black polishable limestones. Being polishable it is referred to as a marble. The black « marble » limestone is from a quarry in Wallonia (region of Belgium), from the hamlet of Golzinne (near Gembloux) or nearby Mazy, mined from the same vein. This deep black polishable limestone is called “Noir de Golzinne » or « Noir de Mazy ». Combined with the white marble cabochon squares it is exceptional to source such a beautiful and visually striking floor such as this, with the black & white switched around compared to most cabochon flooring.

Due to its density of black this limestone has been specified for centuries for prestigious architectural decor, from the Palace of Versailles to the Taj Mahal.
