Antique fireback featuring lions: This antique cast-iron fireback has a very unusual shape, featuring an arabesque profil. Arabesques being a feature of the Baroque influenced era of the 17th & 18th centuries in France, there is no reason to think that this excellent fireback is younger than that. The theme of its decor is a coat of arms flanked by two rampant lions who are holding the shield upright in their claws.The lower part of the antique fireback has been eroded over time but without effacing the excellent cast detailing of the majority of the scene.
