Monumental Louis XVI mirror
Monumental Louis XVI mirror: This huge painted timber-framed mirror is a 20th century reproduction with lots of authentic grandiose features with patina. The hand-made oak frame features raised and fielded panels, concave reveals, and extraordinary carved mouldings of arabesques and garlands. From acanthus leaves to sun-flowers they symbolise regal references of the classic Louis XVI style, and perhaps further back in time as sun-flowers are a reference to the « Sun King » Louis XIV as well.
This mirror in good overall condition was originally positioned above a fireplace in a room with a high ceiling. It is an impressive work of art by skilled joiners and cabinet makers.
