Pair of antique stone plinths
Pair of antique stone plinths : This pair of antique reclaimed stone plinths, or pedestals, is in good condition and they are both nicely weathered. They are in a bluish-grey French limestone. They will probably have supported a pair of octagonal columns in either stone or wood. Clearly they can be re-used for the same purpose, or be used as pedestals to support statues or « objets d’art ».
Their form is particularly attractive, with the stone carver having created four facets at each angle of the square to terminate at the top with a regular octagon, hence the assumption of them originally each having supported an octagonal column or pillar. Their age is not newer than 19th century, and quite likely older than that.
Dimensions approx :
- Base square: 56cm x 56cm (22 x 22 inches)
- Height : 49cm (19.3 inches)
- Top octagon : 47cm x 47cm (18.5 x 18.5 inches)
