Large scale antique marble vase: This impressive heavyweight white/off-white marble vase on a pedestal is a late 19th century decorative stone feature that will grace any noble interior, or an overflowing « bassin » in a formal garden or courtyard. Heavyweight indeed, as we have weighed it at 480 kgs (1,058 US lbs) !
The urn is sculpted with fan-shaped gadroons (generous fluting) with stylized acanthus leaves carved around the upper rim. The pedestal is in white marble that has been shaped by turning on a lathe. This ensemble will make a graceful and imposing centre-piece ornament whether or not it is integrated into a water feature.
