Antique wide stone sink
SOLD: Antique wide stone sink : Antique wide stone sink which was hand carved in robust sandstone at least 100 years ago. In fact it’s likely to be much older than 19th century, but despite that it is in remarkably good condition, and features the characteristic drain spout of shallow stone sinks that were positioned in the reveal of a kitchen window. Shallow stone sinks such as this splendid example with lateral draining boards were « work stations » for a multitude of food preparation and cleaning tasks, benefitting from daylight thanks to its location in the window reveal. The waste water would be drained out via the spout which projected below the window ledge to exterior. The water wasn’t wasted either, as it would henceforth flow either into a trough positioned outside in front of the window, or be channeled to a herb or vegetable patch. The ecology of kitchen sinks was far better in those days !
Whether this historic antique sink is re-used inside or outside it is sure to be put to good use and is particularly decorative.
